The biggest thing is don’t be afraid!
Avoid intellectual battles.
These are usually just smoke screens that people use to thwart people that talk about God. You need to understand almost everyone
has only a thin layer of knowledge about the subject especially since their stance has no real ground to stand on.
They’ll make a statement about a topic like, “How do you explain dinosaurs, then?” or “How can
God exist if there is so much evil in this world?” They don’t really know how to explain it themselves they simply
try to put you on the defensive in an attempt to throw you off topic. It’s all bark, and no bite! Remember you have
truth on your side. When you understand that, you can be emboldened to reach out.
People that try to stay willingly ignorant on the topic of God resist the subject. They don’t want to get into
an in-depth discussion because deep down they know that they don’t really know very much. So don’t put them on
the defensive! Keep the conversation quick and to the point! That way you can spur their curiosity before their defenses go
up.
Remember don’t
try to answer their objections or jump tracks onto another topic. Timing is everything…just not what you think though!
You have a small window of time before they get uncomfortable with the subject matter due to their lack of knowledge so you
need to be quick and direct. Stay the course!
Keep the conversation short. Get them to the resource fast!
Open up the dialogue with something benign.
Then, move quickly to the gospel card. Hand it to them. Tell them that it’s theirs. Encourage them to read it and then
go to the webpage shown on the card.
You will find that most people are receptive to receiving something tangible.
Remember to be upbeat and excited about
it!
They’ll pick up that vibe from you and curiosity will consume them.
Their defenses will
not have come up yet. This is how you can reach them.
If you have become familiar with
the gospel card yourself, and their curiosity is peaked, you can then spend some time talking about the subject or the information
on the card or even at the website if they ask you questions about it. You will have kept them on course and not deviated
from the direction you wanted to go.
After you are done, simply move on and pray for them.
Ask God to open their heart to receive the gospel. At that point, it is God’s job now. You will have done what God has
asked you to do…to witness!
Remember: You may be the planter, the waterer, or the harvester. You don’t know where
they are at the time you talk to them. Your job is simply to obey. God will see your efforts!
If they don’t respond favorably, dust your feet
off and ask God to help them. The hope is that God will stir in their heart and they will re-engage with the gospel card and
then check out the webpage after all. Make sure that you give them the gospel card so that they have it with them later when
they are by themselves and God starts working on their heart!
