Prophecy . . . "The scepter will not depart from Judah . . . until He comes to whom it belongs and the obedience of the nations is His.”, “remove the crown, it will not be as it was: The lowly will be exalted and the exalted will be brought low. . . It will not be restored until He comes to whom it rightfully belongs; to Him I will give it.” (Genesis 49:10 & Ezekiel 21:26-27) From 500 - 1500 years before the birth of Jesus Christ, the Holy Scriptures stated that the tribe of Judah would be the lineage of the Messiah. Genesis, being written by the hand of God thru Moses, was likely written around the time of Israel’s wanderings in the desert about c.1446B.C - c.1406B.C. Ezekiel’s calling took place around 593 B.C. No one can choose his lineage. Only God can control these circumstances!Fulfillment . . . "A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham. . .and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers. . .and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who was called Christ.”. . .”He was the son . . . of Joseph . . . the son of David . . . the son of Jacob . . . the son of Adam, the son of God.” (Matthew 1:1-16, Luke 3:23-38) Not only is the lineage of Christ confirmed from Abraham to Joseph, His inherited father, in the book of Matthew, but the lineage of Christ is confirmed on Mary’s side of the family as well in the book of Luke. The lineage of the Messiah on both sides of the family is amazingly preserved in the scriptures. In the book of Luke, the Holy Word of God actually states His lineage all the way back to God, Himself! Another tidbit here is that the genealogies merge at King David about 1000 years before the birth of Christ. Joseph and Mary are direct descendents of King David, hence the direct line to the tribe of Judah. The incredible precision of God’s hand is unmistakable. With the lineage of the Hebrew people being so important to them, the preservation of Christ’s genealogy was made possible to fulfill this prophecy. |
