 The manner in which the Messiah would die

Prophecy . . . “Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.” (Psalm 22:16)
About 1000 years BEFORE the birth of Jesus Christ, King David spoke graphically about the crucifixion of the future Messiah. The part about the environment surrounding the Messiah is telling; being encircled by evil men (Roman guards, two robbers, and the many who hurled insults at him as he hung upon the cross). Even more telling is the piercing of the hands and feet, a practice only used in crucifixion. The Romans INVENTED that form of capital punishment many centuries AFTER King David’s life!
Fulfillment . . .“They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha…And they crucified him.” (Mark 15:24)
The Romans invented the form of capital punishment called crucifixion with the sole purpose of extracting the maximum amount of suffering in order to terrorize the people into submission. This form of torture was so inhumane that NO Roman citizen was allowed to even be crucified. So unique and inhumane was this form of torture, that it has only been used by the Romans in history! The Messiah had to come during that narrow timeframe in history where the prophecies could be fulfilled. At no other time, would the Messiah have been crucified. Remember King David prophesied about this concerning the Messiah a 1000 years BEFORE it was invented. He would not have even understood what it would all mean when he wrote it down. Yet, it came to be. INCREDIBLE!
